Hello and welcome to my blog!
My name is Naomi and I live in London, United Kingdom. I am a mother of two lovely girls; they keep me on my toes all day long with their fun and games.
I’m Chinese but I was born in Vietnam and I came to England in the early 80’s as a Vietnamese refugee. The recipes that you find on this website will be mostly from my heritage. But I will also be sharing recipes from other Southeast Asian countries. My step-father is Malaysian Chinese and this is the reason why I enjoy both Malaysian and Singaporean food.
I have always enjoyed eating and cooking food. But I didn’t really properly cook until I moved into my own home. This is when I started experimenting with food and was surprised at what I could achieve. It has been my passion ever since.
I really do believe that you are what you eat. If you eat well, you will feel good inside.
My recipes
If you are interested in making healthy Asian recipes. Then you have come to the right place.
I hope to share with you some of the most popular Asian dishes as well as the more traditional recipes that are eaten at home but not served in restaurants. Such as slow cooked duck with yam or sweet honey eels.
What are the health benefit post?
I wanted to share with people the health benefits of the ingredients that I use in my recipes.
Are your recipes gluten-free?
At present you will fine quite a few gluten-free Asian products sold in Asian supermarkets. Such as gluten-free soy sauce, oyster sauce and hoisin sauce. Most of the recipes I will show you will be made from scratch therefore I will never use a jar of sweet and sour sauce or black bean sauce with my recipes. As you know most of these ready made sauces all contain wheat starch.
What cuisine can I expect to find?
I do like all sort of Asian food such as Korean, Thai, Japanese, Taiwanese, Malaysian, Cambodian, Laotian, Indonesian and Fillipino. Therefore I will be sharing with you recipes from these countries.
Where do you get your recipe idea from?
Some of the Chinese and Vietnamese recipes will come from my mother and mother-in-law. The recipes that I share, which are not Chinese or Vietnamese may come to me because I have eaten it at a friend’s house, restaurant or from a streetfood vendor. I sort of try and work out what ingredients they use and then recreate the dish in my kitchen. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Well the recipes that does work will be shared with you on here.
Why do you only share Asian food recipes?
I have grown up eating Asian food and I feel I have better knowledge on Asian cuisine than any other.
Also, I would like Asianfoodadventure to be the first place that people come to if they are looking for an Asian recipe.
